Our Class Mission

In year 2 we listen, we love each other, and we always try our best, living by the example of Jesus.

18.05.2025 - 22.05.2026

This week in Year 2, we have been learning all about Japan and exploring its culture, traditions, landmarks, and way of life.

We learnt that the capital city of Japan is Tokyo and that Japan is located in the continent of Asia. In class, we created our own fact files and discovered many interesting facts about the country. We also learnt about famous Japanese foods such as ramen and sushi, as well as the weather in Japan, which can sometimes be warm and sometimes cold.

Throughout the week, we explored famous landmarks such as Mount Fuji and designed our own colourful kimonos, which are traditional clothes worn for special occasions. We also enjoyed learning simple Japanese greetings and phrases. We practised saying “Konnichiwa” for hello and “Sayonara” for goodbye.

We learnt about Japan’s beautiful cherry blossom trees and why they are important in Japanese culture. Cherry blossoms symbolise new life and new beginnings. Inspired by this, we created our own cherry blossom artwork and paintings in class. We also explored the traditional Japanese art of origami and made our own paper cranes using careful folding techniques.

International Week has been a fantastic opportunity for Year 2 to celebrate another culture, learn new skills, and try exciting activities.
